Threat Assessment and Management Certificate Overview
In this program, students will examine risk factors and behavioral cues to aid in identifying individuals who may pose a threat to personal and organizational safety. Regardless of industry or setting, the program will not only help students recognize a potential threat, but also give them a familiarity with proven tactics on managing the threat with effective leadership skills.

Course 1: Fundamentals of Threat Assessment and Management
This course provides an overview of the theories and approaches related to identifying and mitigating potential violent activity in specific contexts. It examines investigating people who may pose a threat and recognizing and managing immediate threats. Topics include behavioral threat assessment and threat management, violence risk assessment, behavioral analysis, victim factors and forensic victimology, threatening communications, and managing threats in various contexts.
Course 2: Threat Assessment and Management in Context: School and Workplace Violence
This course explores educational institution disruptions such as school violence, workplace violence, and mall violence, and examines their differences, commonalities, and uniqueness in terms of threat assessment and management, including efforts to evaluate and manage these threats. Also addressed are the factors that contribute to violence in these particular areas, from both internal and external sources, as well as legal issues related to evaluating and managing threats in these areas.
Course 3: Threat Assessment and Management in Context: Stalking, Intimate Partners, and Public Figures
This course explores stalking and its relationship to violence from a threat assessment perspective. The course examines the factors that respectively increase and decrease the risk of violence and potential lethality in these contexts and focuses on methods of identifying violent intent and mitigating violence potential.
These courses and certificates qualify for ASIS Continuing Education Units.
